Introduction and background

The Carbohydrate Bioengineering Meeting (CBM) series was organized in 1995 by Sven Pedersen, ^^^Birte Svensson^^^, and Steffen B. Petersen, and was fostered in subsequent biennial meetings (see Meeting history below).

CBM witnessed the tremendous expansion of the field of glycosciences, constantly growing and becoming a consolidated interdisciplinary forum. This meeting series aims to showcase state-of-the-art of research on basic and applied aspects of carbohydrate bioengineering, with the purpose of stimulating high quality research and inspiring both established and young scholars of glycoscience.

The conference topics span structure, function, and synthesis of carbohydrates; mechanisms and structure-function relationships of CAZymes; glycomics, glycoproteomics and systems glycobiology; carbohydrate and enzyme engineering; functional analysis of carbohydrates and CAZymes in cell biology; application of carbohydrates and CAZymes in industrial biotechnology, nutrition, and human health. This comprehensive overview aims to stimulate the debate in carbohydrate bioengineering and the active exchange of scientific information between researchers from academia and industry.
