A conformational itinerary is a description of the conformational changes that a molecule undergoes in changing from one conformation to another. In the case of a pyranose ring the conformational changes can be represented on a conformational map. Such a conformational map can be drawn as a polar projectin, centred on a chair conformation; alternatively, a Mercator-like projection can be drawn with conformations shown in a grid. For a more detailed discussion see the excellent book by J. Fraser Stoddard [1].
