Sub-site nomenclature

A nomenclature for enzymatic sub-sites of carbohydrate processing enzymes was proposed in 1997 [1]. Sub-sites are numbered with increasingly negative numbers (-1, -2, -3, etc) away from the cleavage point towards the non-reducing terminus, and with increasingly positive numbers (+1, +2, +3, etc) towards the reducing terminus as shown below.
